And choose Hikvision If you are securing a villa or a shop and need continuous 24-hour recording to a central recorder that holds weeks of footage.

The real difference is not resolution
Both brands offer 2K and 4K at similar prices. The difference the customer feels after a year is What happens when you need footage from two weeks ago. A camera that records only on motion and stores to a 128 GB card will loop over itself within days. An NVR system with a 4 TB drive holds four cameras recording continuously for about a month.
Technical note: the memory card is the first point of failure
The most common report we get about WiFi cameras is that it stopped recording, and in most cases the cause is an ordinary phone-grade memory card. The camera writes to the card all day, erasing and rewriting the same sectors, which wears out a standard card within three to six months. Always use a card marked High Endurance or Surveillance, and do not exceed the maximum capacity the manufacturer specifies.
Technical note: heat and the solar panel
A solar camera is really two separate units: a body containing a lithium battery, and a solar panel. The battery degrades quickly above 45 degrees, and the panel needs direct sun. So the best installation in Kuwait is to mount the camera body under an overhang or eave, and run the solar panel cable a metre or two to an exposed position. Most models allow this.
When to mix the two systems
This is what we actually install in most villas: a wired Hikvision system covering the entrance, parking and perimeter with continuous recording, and solar Tapo cameras in the outlying spots the cabling does not reach, such as the annexe roof, the back of the garden and the service door. The first gives you the archive; the second gives you coverage without breaking anything open.
What about privacy and subscriptions?
Neither system requires a subscription. Both record locally, to a card or to a recorder inside the house, and you watch live from your phone at no charge. Cloud storage is an optional extra only.
