Smart Thermostats in Kuwait: What Suits Your AC

Air conditioning is the largest item on a Kuwaiti electricity bill, and a smart thermostat saves money not because it cools better, but because it stops the AC running in empty areas or at the same temperature all day long.

Know your system type first

Central units with fan coil the most common type in Kuwaiti apartments and villas. The thermostat controls the water valve and the fan speed, which is what the OWON thermostat shown here supports.

Wall-mounted split units controlled by remote and have no wall thermostat, so making them smart needs a smart infrared unit rather than a thermostat.

VRF systems these usually need a dedicated gateway from the manufacturer to link them to smart systems, rather than replacing the thermostat. That is project work rather than a shelf product, and we carry it out through the projects team after a site visit.

Technical note: voltage and wiring

Before buying, check the voltage of your current thermostat: most Kuwaiti units run on 220V, while some imported systems run on 24V. Photograph your existing thermostat from the front and the back after switching off the power, send us both photos on WhatsApp, and we will confirm compatibility straight away. The number of wires matters too: a two-pipe system needs fewer wires than a four-pipe system.

How it actually saves

The biggest saving comes from simple scheduling: raising the temperature two degrees while you are out, and cooling the room half an hour before you arrive rather than leaving it running all day. In a Kuwaiti summer, one degree higher makes a noticeable difference to compressor usage.

Installation

Installation is included in the price of the unit inside Kuwait and takes 30 to 45 minutes, covering removal, wiring, connecting to Wi-Fi and setting up the schedule.
